Belly Love Teams Up with Local Homebrewers
Jul 9th, 2015Belly Love Brewing Company has teamed up with the local homebrew club, Homebrewers of Western Loudoun (HOWL) in a new program that offers club members the opportunity to brew their recipes on a commercial system.
HOWL holds 6 competitions annually for its members, each focusing on a specific style. The winner of each competition is crowned “The Bestest Brewer” in the club and is offered the opportunity to brew one of their recipes at Belly Love. Their recipe is scaled up accordingly and modified as needed for a 3.5bbl (110gal) production run. The club member then acts as assistant brewer, lending a hand throughout the brew day. Once the beer has finished fermenting and conditioning, it is then put on tap exclusively at the Belly Love Taproom, with credit given to the assistant homebrewer.
The first participant in this program was Matt Tolley, the current president of HOWL, and recipient of several Bestest Brewer awards. His recipe for a Piwo Grodziskie or Grätzer, a lightly oak-smoked wheat beer, was brewed on July 3rd and will be available in the Taproom at the end of July. Three other past winners have also shown interest and are currently in the production queue for 2015.
